Mixing it up: old school and new wave

It’s story time, blog friends! For your Good Friday edition of the Willow Salon blog, we have a tale to tell you. So settle in on this chilly holiday, and enjoy.
What do you think of when you hear the phrase “mixing station”? Does it conjure up images of DJs in clubs, of two turntables and a microphone? Do you think of the wonderful art of mixology, bartenders and drink specialists and their interesting and delicious concoctions? (it IS the long weekend after all)
Well, if you’re a hairstylist, you might think of the place at the back of the salon where the colours get mixed, where the consultations go down, where all the magic happens.
And that, blogfriends, is what we are going to talk about today – Willow’s brand new mixing station!
First, who remembers this old workhorse:
Busy place!

Busy place!

Hard at work

Hard at work

It’s ok if you don’t. You might remember it, or you might not. That’s the way it is with furniture, it  becomes part of the landscape. It does its job, it serves you well. And sometimes you don’t notice it until it’s gone. Hmmm….sounds a bit like a Joni Mitchell song…paving paradise and…ok, whoa, got off track there… Anyway…
Sometimes things DO become part of the furniture, and sometimes these things actually are furniture
The old saying is that when you start to take something for granted, it starts to become part of the furniture. Well, what if that something actually IS furniture? Well then, the saying most definitely holds up in that case. (will stop saying furniture now, promise)
A couple of months ago Willow Salon said goodbye to this old girl, and welcomed a new one. While it might not seem like a big deal, it’s interesting to reflect on that old piece and what she did for Willow.

When Kim opened Willow on Foundry Street, this was the piece of furniture that did a lot of the work. Well, ok the TEAM did most of the work, but here colours were mixed and measured, supplies were stored…it had a lot going on.
It has seen some stuff, that’s for sure…
Well used, well loved!

Well used, well loved!

Look closely, maybe your colour is immortalized on there!
As much as it can be sad to say goodbye to a reliable friend like this, there is the excitement of its new, modern, and highly functional replacement. And we can all agree that it’s a real beauty!

It was no easy feat getting this beast into the salon, but the result was perfection.

Welcome to Willow!

Welcome to Willow!

Next time you’re in the salon, have a look at the newest addition – and honestly, marvel at how the delivery guys managed to get it through the doors! But also take a look at the purpose it serves. Obviously it’s now covered with the day-to-day necessities of running a salon – just like the old one was – and it’s doing its job really well. And before it becomes just part of the landscape, part of the furniture, give it some love. That is definitely something we could all use a little more often.

Enjoy your long weekend, and Happy Easter! We’ll see you back here on Tuesday with tips for using up that leftover chocolate! (Haha, just kidding! Leftover chocolate, what is that even?!)
