Good morning and welcome to Tuesday, blog friends!
Something is definitely in the air, have you felt it? Just a tiny bit of a shift; in the weather and the attitude of summer. The mornings are a bit cooler – we’re not talking jacket weather just yet, of course – but you can definitely feel that the air is a wee bit crisper lately.
With just one week left until the kids – big and little – all head back to school, you can also feel the buzz around the local schools. Lots of teachers are heading back this week to prepare, and our local post-secondary institutions have already started to welcome their students. If you’ve been in the Westdale or the West 5th area in the past few days, you’ll know exactly what we mean.
Like we said, a bit of a shift in attitude. The lazy days are still with us, but they now start to be filled with a bit more activity. Perhaps some planning, some list-making, some back-to-school shopping might start to replace long days at the beach, picnics at the park, and long stretches of reading on the porch. It’s inevitable, and it’s kind of nice that we can ease back into the promise of routine during this last full week before Labour Day. Almost like a practice run before the real deal!
In order to prep you for the real deal known as Autumn 2016, the fashion mags are out in full force to provide you with everything you need to know about everything. Fashion, hair, beauty, trends, what’s in, what’s out, what’s hot, what’s not…you name it, it’s in there.
To get us started, your bloggers looked at two of the heavy hitters in the fashion mag world, InStyle and Fashion. Of course we all know that the September issue of Vogue is the veritable bible when it comes to this sort of thing, but we’ll leave that one for now. Some weight training might be needed before we lift that baby and carry it home with us!
For now, let’s look at what these two have to say. InStyle is of course a US publication, while Fashion reps hard for Canada, so we get the best of cross-border styles and trends – always nice to know what’s cool here, as well as what our friends south of us are into as well.
Please note the red Post-It Note flags! There was obviously a lot of information that seemed noteworthy to us! We probably won’t have space to cover it all, but we do want to give you a few highlights. Drum roll please…
We always like to start with hair trends, for obvious reasons, and here is what we’re looking at for Autumn 2016: top knots and accessories and curls…oh my!
These are just a few of the trends that are highlighted for this coming season, and isn’t it nice to see that the effortlessness of the top knot remains in the picture? Lots of these on the runways, along with oversized bejewelled and befeathered hair clips and bows layered on heads to create almost crown-like headdresses. Also, if you’re not quite ready to bring out the hair dryer and the flat iron and spend loads of time on your hair this fall, you’re in luck, because the trend towards everything curly is still going strong! Let your natural wave be your guide!
Are you ready for some drama? Because you are about to get it in the form of Autumn 2016’s take on eye makeup and lip colour! Jagged lashes and all-out (what appears to be) scrawled on eyeliner, as well as all the darkest toned lips colours you could ever want. Now, while these looks might seem a bit jarring after the easy, breezy, hot and summery season we’ve been having, they will no doubt be on everyone’s mind (lips?) as the days get shorter and the temperatures start to fall.
Ready to unleash your inner cat lady or gent? Get set for all the feline prints and faces you can handle for autumn. Seriously fun stuff!
Whew. And that, friends, is just the tip of the fall fashion magazine iceberg!
There is still a lot more to cover, and we’ll hopefully get into that as the season progresses. For now, we hope you’ve enjoyed our look at some of the trends for Autumn 2016, even if you’re still in denial that it’s September on Friday… (sorry!)
Have a great rest of the week everyone, see you here Friday for the Friday Five!
