Haha that title though! If that doesn’t call for a “sorry not sorry,” then…yeah. Ok. We’re sorry.
But! We are NOT sorry for turning your attention toward – or back toward – the always amazing Cannes Film Festival, or Festival de Cannes. This year marked the 70th anniversary of the festival, and the official Cannes website has an interactive timeline, which lets you check out some of the highlights over the years.
If you’re into film, Cannes is one of the most anticipated film events of the year. And, equally, if you’re into film stars, and what they bring to the entertainment world, you can do a lot worse than checking out the links on the official festival website! All the films are listed there, and the site also offers you the chance to watch a few selected clips, see interviews with some cast members and directors, and see the photos from the official photo calls. And of course now that the awards have been handed out, (the festival wrapped up Sunday) the award winners are listed too.
Of course what interests us along with fabulous films, is the red carpet events. Given our fascination with all things hair, makeup, and fashion, it’s not surprising that we spent a great deal of time checking out the dresses, the accessories, the overall looks of the stars spotted in Cannes…and we were NOT disappointed!
To kick things off you just have to love this intro from Vogue:
“With its legendary blend of Old World elegance and continental cool, the Cannes Film Festival sets the bar for seaside glamour each year, delivering an epic lineup of summer beauty ideas just in time for the first long weekend stateside.”
Legendary. Old World elegance. Seaside glamour. They just cover it ALL, don’t they? And then, of course, because it’s Vogue, we get a stunning gallery of incredible looks!
Fashion Magazine offers up The Best-Dressed Celebrities on the Film Festival’s Red Carpet and there is a lot to love in their gallery too.
So what were the results? Top knots were prominent, as was winged eyeliner. Lots of old-Hollywood glamour hair too, as well as some tousled, natural-looking styles. Cannes is almost always about elegance, and, as Vogue put it, that “…blend of Old World elegance and continental cool…” and that really does seem to sum it up perfectly.
And there are SO MANY red carpets! It’s a festival, lasting nearly two weeks! Stars are seen in multiple gowns, with multiple hairstyles, jewelry and makeup looks! So it’s better than the Oscars – just one night – and it’s better than the Tonys – also just one night – for fashion opportunities, anyway. So much to see!
So while we can’t all be in the south of France annually for this epic film festival, we can always take a virtual trip, get our fashion AND our film fix, with just the click of a mouse.
Enjoy the fashion, and enjoy the films, friends. Have a wonderful week, see you again on Friday.
