It’s long weekend time, friends! And we hope our roundup of things to do in the area from Tuesday has been a guide for you as you make your long weekend plans. As we always say there is no shortage of things to do in #HamOnt during the summer months, and since the summers are so fleeting, it’s always a good idea to make the most of them – as much as you can, anyway. Obviously, work and family commitments take some priority, but overall the summers are the perfect time to reflect and recharge…even as you sip that frosty drink on a patio somewhere!
Now, you might not know this, but one of the things we love a lot here at the Willow Salon blog is a list. What kind of list? Why, any kind, really! We love a good Top Ten list, whether it’s lipsticks or celebrity hairstyles. We love a Best Of list from, oh say New York Fashion Week or The Oscars red carpet. And one thing we love in particular is a good old-fashioned summer bucket list.
The bucket list, if you’re unaware, is a list of things you want to do or accomplish or see or experience before you, as the saying goes, kick the bucket. Pretty sure that before the movie The Bucket List (thinking of the one with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman here, although there are others) the list was called something different, but after the release of the film, bucket list became part of the language of our time. So bucket list it remains.
This summer, PopSugar has a Summer Bucket List for you to peruse, and it’s all kinds of fun.
There are some typical summer events featured – camping, spending a day in the park, making s’mores over a campfire – but there are a few that may not necessarily be on your radar. Things like volunteering, hosting a games night with friends, checking out an art exhibit at a gallery, and several more. 50 total, as a matter of fact. 50 ways to shake up your summer and make it memorable.
Sound like a plan? We think so too!
And, if you want to put a local spin on things, try and think of some truly #HamOnt ways to check everything off the list. For example “Experience an outdoor concert” becomes easy with It’s Your Festival happening this weekend! In fact, you can check off several items on this list just by hanging in Gage Park for a few hours over the long weekend!
So add a little more fun to your summer by trying to hit some of these summer bucket list items, or, even better, create your own list to share with friends and family. It always seems like the summer stretches out endlessly, but we’ve all been there and made it to Labour Day while thinking “where did THAT summer go, and what do I have to show for it?!?” So perhaps a plan is the way to do it. Make memories along the way, and satisfy that urge to check things off a list as a way to keep track.
Enjoy the long weekend, everyone! Please stay safe on the roads and the water, and we look forward to chatting with you again on Tuesday. Cheers!
