Good morning! It’s Friday and it’s the start of the long Labour Day weekend, and we sure hope you are pumped for the final long weekend of the summer! Yeah, sorry about that… You know, technically, summer is still around for another couple of weeks, but this last weekend before school officially starts always seems like the very end of summer, doesn’t it? Once that routine gets into gear, there’s no stopping it, and those summer days of freedom really do feel as though they’ve passed us by. It’s a bit sad, honestly, but we’ve had a good run, haven’t we? The weather has been incredible lately – if you’re into hot and humid, of course – and we do hope you’ve made the most of your time off if you were able to take some.
Whether you made the most of the sun and heat with beach days, festival days, park days, camping or cottage days, or you did your best to avoid the heat with library days, museum days, shopping mall days…we hope your summer was exactly what you needed.
So let’s raise a glass to the summer of 2018, and, at the same time, let’s giddyup towards Autumn! After all this heat, a lot of us are ready for the cooler, crisper feels of fall and all that this season brings. Pumpkin spice latte, anyone? Too soon? Not according to Starbucks!
But, before we dive headlong into that proverbial pile of leaves, let’s take a look at what you can expect to find around the city this weekend.
Tourism Hamilton has a nice roundup of events in the Hamilton area during the long weekend and, as they say, there is something for everyone! Tour the Dundurn Castle historic gardens, check out Rock and Roll Day at Wild Waterworks, cheer on the Tiger-Cats at the Labour Day Classic, or take a downtown Hamilton Ghost Walk, if you dare!
If you don’t see anything of interest there, visit The Spectator’s events calendar for even more great long weekend ideas including yoga with alpacas and sheep, (really!) events at the Hamilton Public Library, farmers markets, music at Jackson Square and other great events to keep you busy all weekend.
Wondering what’s open and what’s closed on the holiday Monday? CBC Hamilton has your guide to retail and city services, so you don’t miss out on things like garbage and recycling collection.
Oh, and let’s look ahead into September, for the ultimate in planning. You might already know that Canadian Country Music Week is coming up and that Hamilton is this year’s host city for the Canadian Country Music Awards, so look for events leading up to that too! Check their website for all the details so you don’t miss out! And, of course, we have Supercrawl to look forward to later this month as well! But we’re getting ahead of ourselves… It’s hard not to when Hamilton continues to have so many great events to look forward to!
For now though, we hope you all have a wonderful, safe, and happy Labour Day weekend! Remember to use sunscreen, stay hydrated, and take some time for yourself, whatever that looks like for you. It’s going to be a busy fall season, friends. Make sure you’ve got fuel in the tank to begin with, and ensure you refuel as often as you need. Cheers!
